The Trump budget and staff cuts are already having specific catastrophic effects. Worse, “catastrophe averted” is no longer the standard for evaluating government performance. Routine just doesn’t work for this administration. For them, the catastrophe is the status quo, which because it didn’t change on or about January 6 2021, demands all manner of emergency and extraordinary powers. What’s going on rhymes more with Robespierre than Louis XIV, I think.
