My definition of “the Anthropocene”

To decompose neoliberal globalism into a differentiated set of smaller and more locally responsive nation-states has many attractions as a proposal, especially in settings whose yesterdays themselves held more attraction. Such states might in some cases be able to provide better protection. But whatever gains re-localization might offer in citizen comprehension or mutual sympathy, what it could not conceivably offer people is control over most aspects of their lives. That is not something which states or anything else can now supply.
